Unterneustadt

Kassel, Germany

The residential and commercial building is located in the Unterneustadt at the new pedestrian bridge to the city center. The building joins two rows of buildings with different storeys to form a bridgehead. The connection between the two parts of the building is formed by a common natural stone base. Targeted openings create different references to the garden, the riverbank and the roofscape. The curved facade emphasizes the special location of the building and functions as a striking prelude to the adjacent district. The four-story office building is accessed from Christoph street. A steel and glass façade faces the forecourt of the bridge and is framed by the vaulted building head. The first floor café connects the plaza to the waterfront open space.
